Jordan Clark is Canada’s Favorite Dancer!

After nine thrilling weeks of competition, Canada has watched her rise to the top mastering every dance style thrown her way, and after tonight’s dance-packed SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA fourth season finale, we congratulate JORDAN CLARK on becoming Canada’s Favourite Dancer.

After 1.6 million votes were cast on Monday night, host Leah Miller announced live this evening that JORDAN Clark (19), a Contemporary dancer from Tottenham, ON has become Canada’s Favourite Dancer, also claiming the prize of $100,000, and a brand new Chevrolet Cruze.

Fellow Top 6 finalist MELISSA Mitro (23), a Contemporary dancer from Richmond Hill, ON was declared the Season 4 runner-up and also receives a brand new Chevrolet Cruze.

Like last season, the runner-up will receive $10,000, and the remaining four competitors will receive $5,000 each from the Sandra Faire and Ivan Fecan Dance Fund.

JORDAN and MELISSA, along with the other Top 6 finalists MATT Marr (20), a Contemporary dancer from Quispamsis, NB, LINDSAY Leuschner (19), a Contemporary dancer from Stouffville, ON; SHANE Simpson (24), a Jazz dancer from Thornhill, ON and CHRISTIAN Millette (28), a Ballroom dancer from Montreal, QC, graced the stage with all Top 22 competitors for the dance-filled two-hour live broadcast on CTV.

The final votes are now cast for Canada’s Favourite Dancer. Will it be CHRISTIAN, JORDAN, LINDSAY, MATT, MELISSA or SHANE who will be named Canada’s Favourite Dancer this Sunday?

Top Three Girls: JORDAN Clark (a Contemporary dancer from Tottemham), MELISSA Mitro (a contemporary dancer from Richmond Hill), and LINDSAY Leuschner (a contemporary dancer from Stouffville)

The two-hour Finale episode airs this Sunday, September 11 at 8 p.m. on CTV.

The jam-packed Finale will feature 23 numbers, including three new group numbers, Season 4’s most memorable routines, and a surprise performance by two special guests.

The judge’s desk will also be extended to fit nine judges including Jean Marc Genereux, Tré Armstrong, Luther Brown, Blake McGrath and guest judges Mary Murphy, Mia Michaels, Rex Harrington, Sean Cheesman and Sergio Trujillo.

Kicking off the two-hour dance extravaganza, the Top 22 will reunite for a new and very special group number, created by world-renowned choreographer Sergio Trujillo. In the group number, SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA introduces another surprise twist as the Top 22 dancers will be joined by judges Jean Marc Genereux, Tré Armstrong, Luther Brown, Blake McGrath and guest judge Mary Murphy, who all make a cameo in the routine showing off their own moves. This is the first time that any of the judges have ever performed in a group number in the show’s history.

The Top 10 will also perform a new contemporary group number choreographed by 2011 EMMY®-nominated Stacey Tookey, and the Top 6 will take to the stage for a special lyrical-jazz routine choreographed by guest judge Sean Cheesman.

Top Ten Dancers So You Think You Can Dance Season 4

Following tonight’s live Results show, 10 dancers remain in the hunt to become Canada’s Favourite Dancer after GEISHA Chin, a Contemporary dancer from Toronto and JOEY Arrigo, a Contemporary dancer from Newmarket were sent home.

The Top 10 dancers have survived six vigorous weeks performing styles ranging from hip-hop to the quick step and house, to contemporary, theatre and rumba. Ranging in age from 19 to 29, the Top 10 represent Canada, with one dancer from New Brunswick, three dancers from Quebec and six dancers from Ontario. Along with the title of Canada’s Favourite Dancer, the winner takes home $100,000, and both the winner and runner-up will drive away with a brand new Chevrolet Cruze.

Toronto Dancers Push Through to Top Twelve on SYTYCD Canada

After an edgy jazz-rock group number choregraphed by Melissa Williams which had the top 14 dancing about love and rumours to Adele’s “Rumour Has It”, the judges revealed that it was CARLENA Britch, a Hip-Hop dancer from Vancouver and JP Dubé, a Hip-Hop dancer from Montreal, who were going home from SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA this week.

The dancers who successfully performed their solos were GEISHA Chin, a Contemporary dancer from Toronto, JOEY Arrigo, a Contemporary dancer from Newmarket, YULIYA Zavadska, a Ballroom dancer from Toronto, and SHANE Simpson, a Jazz dancer from Thornhill.

Yuliya’s real-life dance partner, Sharone Levit, who himself had made the finals week earlier in the season, released a huge sigh of relief when his tiny svelte co-competitor saved herself from elimination this week with a ferocious Latin solo.

The top 14 dancers will perrform next week on Monday, August 8 at 8 p.m. on CTV in front of judges Jean Marc Genereux and Tré Armstrong as well as guest judges Rex Harrington, Melissa Williams and Dan Karaty. They will work with choreographers Luther Brown, Blake McGrath, Stacey Tookey, Sabrina Matthews, Gustavo Vargas, Sho-Tyme and SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA alumni Francis Lafreniere and Claudia Primeau.

Toronto Dancers Lauren and Rodrigo Eliminated from SYTYCD Top 20

Following the Top 20 Performance show, the votes were tallied and it was announced yesterday on CTV that LAUREN Lyn (24), a Salsa dancer from Toronto, and RODRIGO Basurto (26), a Hip-Hop dancer from Toronto, would be saying goodbye to SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA. The results were revealed live during Tuesday’s broadcast after host Leah Miller revealed the three couples with the lowest number of votes. The 18 remaining dancers will take to the stage on Monday, July 25 at 8 p.m. ET on CTV (go to ctv.ca to confirm local listings).

The bottom three couples who performed their solos for Canada this week were CARLENA Britch (20), a Hip-Hop and Locking dancer from Vancouver, BC and Dwayne “BONELESS” Gulston (23), a Hip-Hop and Popping dancer from Toronto, ON who performed a Dancehall routine; DENITSA Ikonomova (24), a Ballroom dancer from Laval, QC and JP Dubé (19), a Hip-Hop dancer from Montreal, QC who danced a Jive routine; and LAUREN and RODRIGO who lit up the stage with a Hip-Hop routine. Following the reveal, each dancer had the opportunity to dance for their lives before the judges deliberated and decided that LAUREN and RODRIGO would be the next two dancers eliminated from the competition.

Opening last night’s show was a Bollywood group number by Slumdog Millionaire choreographer Longinus Fernandes, who was assisted by Season 2 winner Tara-Jean Popowich. Dressed in brightly coloured costumes, the Top 20 performed a high-energy routine full of intricate movements to “Hadippa” by Pritam & Mika Singh.

IIFA Celebration Brings Bollywood Magic to Toronto

The International Indian Film Academy Awards, founded 12 years ago to showcase India’s movies to the world and build cross-cultural business relationships with other countries, has brought a flurry of stars including Mallika Sherawat, Anil Kapoor, Dia Mirza, Boman Irani, and superstar Shah Rukh Khana to Toronto.

Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty, attending an IIFA press conference on Thursday, said ”the song, the dance, the drama, the action withstanding … Bollywood is all about magic!’

“We have the second largest community of Indians living outside Canada… Canadians will soon know look at Shah Rukh Khan as Johnny Depp and Priyanka Chopra as the Angelina Jolie of Bollywood.”

An estimated 40,000 tourists have come to participate in the week long celebration and 24,000 people have bought tickets to see the show live this Saturday June 25 at the Rogers Centre. 700 million people are expected to watch the televised version of the event.

The winners of last Friday’s dance contest at Yonge-Dundas Square, Chase Constantino, 23, of Mississauga, and Kalpita Desai, 28, of Vancouver, will be performing at Saturday’s awards ceremony.

Indian consul general Preeti Saran hopes the event will boost the bilateral relations between India and Canada with Bollywood’s ‘midas touch’.

So You Think You Can Dance Canada Season 4 Underway

So You Think You Can Dance Canada will air on Mondays at 8pm ET beginning June 20 and on Tuesdays at 8pm beginning July 5

Host Leah Miller is back and is joined by returning judges Jean Marc Genereux, Tré Armstrong, Luther Brown and Blake McGrath.

Canada’s most talented dancers stepped up to compete for a spot in the coveted Season 4 Top 20, and the audition episode broadcast schedule unfolds as follows (all times ET; times and dates subject to change; visit CTV.ca to confirm local broadcast times):

Monday, June 20 at 8 p.m. ET (two hour premiere) – Toronto Auditions – re-airs Friday June 24 on Much Music at 7pm and midnight (Rogers Cable 29)
Monday, June 27 at 8 p.m. ET (two hours) – Vancouver, Edmonton and Saint John, NB Auditions
Tuesday, June 28 at 8 p.m. ET (one hour) – Montreal Auditions
Monday, July 4 at 8 p.m. ET (two hours) – Finals Week
Tuesday, July 5 at 8 p.m. ET (one hour) – Top 20 Reveal
Monday, July 11 at 8 p.m. ET (two hours) – First Performance show of the season, Top 20

Dance hopefuls auditioned in Toronto, Montreal, Edmonton, Vancouver and Saint John, NB, during November and December 2010, all vying for a boarding pass to advance to the next round of competition.

Over 160 dancers advanced to Finals Week in Toronto, where they will work with some of Canada’s top choreographers to earn a spot in the So You Think You Can Dance Canada Top 20.

The dancers will then work in partners and select a different dance style each week, ranging from hip-hop, broadway and dance hall, to ballroom, tango, contemporary and jazz, in the hopes gaining the public’s votes. Two competitors will be eliminated each week during the results shows.
